Dad was best known for his tremendously humble spirit, always ready to put others before himself. He was a source of comfort and calm in tumultuous times, lending a steady hand and a kind heart when it was needed most. Known for his love of horse racing Dad was at his local betting shop weekly and enjoyed putting on small bets every week.
Whilst Dad loved sharing the proceeds of his small wins with his Grandchildren he was very perturbed one day back in 2016 when he sensationally lost a £100 on a sure bet with a horse called "Hard as Iron" Dad thought it was in the bag!!!!! Unfortunately it was far from it. The horse came second, Dad lost and he never stopped talking about it! it became Dads trademark!! That was £100 that the bookies were happy to keep!
Dad had a cheeky smile, he could talk to anyone. We'd go out and he would disappear off, and we would find him in seriously deep conversation with some stranger or another!
He lightened up every room he walked into and was never shy of sharing a hearty laugh with anyone who would entertain him. Above all, he was a great humble person. He loved his whisky and if you ever popped in for a drink you can be sure that you would be walking sideways on your way out, which Dad took great pride in!!!. Harry always stressed the importance of respect and kindness. His favourite thing to say after any sentence was, "That's it" and "you know what I mean".
He always stayed calm in the face of adversity', and it was something he lived by and consistently encouraged others to follow. These life lessons will be some of his most enduring legacies. Dad was a hardworking individual who believed in the dignity of labour and never grumbled about the tasks at hand. This strong work ethic and perseverance were amongst his greatest accomplishments. He leaves behind his friends and family but also a legacy of kindness, generosity, humble living and the attitude of live and let live.
Dad was a man who never judged others but loved them for who they were, an enduring testament to his immense capacity to love and accept. This legacy will never be forgotten and will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him. Dad is survived by his devoted wife Fay, beloved daughters, Sonia and Maxine his cherished Grandchildren Remel and Ria-Monet and the apple of his eye Great Granddaughter Amiyah.
His love, wisdom, and laughter will be profoundly missed, and his memory will always stay alive in the hearts of his family and friends. Rest in peace our beloved Daddy.
Your life was a gift to us all, and your wisdom will continue to guide us.
